-Hello, I'm trying to enlist in the marine corp, I had a minor surgery done when i was two. the surgery was for removing a very minor benign tumor. I DO NOT have the records for this as it was 15 years ago and the hospital apparently "misplaced it." Should i go to a doctor and ask them to write a letter saying how i am fit for duty? And if i give the letter to MEPS, what are the chances of it getting approved?Mention it to your recruiter. He'll most likely tell you not to say anything in MEPs. If it came down to it, say it was a very long time ago and you don't remember.Everything you tell your recruiter you MUST tell MEPS.
unless your recruiter even declares that its so minor it doesn't matter, then YOU DONT SAY ANYTHING AT MEPS.
your recruiter puts together a packet with all of your history in it, medical, drugs, family, etc.
everything you tell him, is what he is going to put in that packet and send to MEPS.
if they look that over, and you fail to mention something at MEPS, or start adding stuff in, theyre going to assume you to be a liar and send you straight home, possibly a 180 day suspension before you can go back.
but also try not to just lie because you can.
if its something like you had a knee replacement 2 years ago and you're officially diagnosed with depression, don't lie about it, because it is stuff that they (at MEPS) can pull up on their own.
but something from 15 years ago would be commonly left out as they won't blame you if you either thought to be extremely minor, or just didn't have any recollection of it at all.
be sure to tell your recruiter so if somthing happens in boot camp they will have a better idea of what to treat if somthing happens but you should be fine
also make sure to have a doctor check you out before you join to make sure that youll be ok
You should be fine, just keep your head down and mouth shut.
I wouldn't even mention it.
