If all the teens at that camp in Norway were armed, how many people do you think would have died?

-Apparently the leftists around here believe that people who carry guns don't know how to use them and that statistics lie.



According to the National Self Defense Survey conducted by Florida State University criminologists in 1994, the rate of Defensive Gun Uses can be projected nationwide to approximately 2.5 million per year -- one Defensive Gun Use every 13 seconds.



Among 15.7% of gun defenders interviewed nationwide during The National Self Defense Survey, the defender believed that someone "almost certainly" would have died had the gun not been used for protection -- a life saved by a privately held gun about once every 1.3 minutes. (In another 14.2% cases, the defender believed someone "probably" would have died if the gun hadn't been used in defense.)



In 83.5% of these successful gun defenses, the attacker either threatened or used force first -- disproving the myth that having a gun available for defense wouldn't make any difference.

In 91.7% of these incidents the defensive use of a gun did not wound or kill the criminal attacker (and the gun defense wouldn't be called "newsworthy" by newspaper or TV news editors). In 64.2% of these gun-defense cases, the police learned of the defense, which means that the media could also find out and report on them if they chose to.



In 73.4% of these gun-defense incidents, the attacker was a stranger to the intended victim. (Defenses against a family member or intimate were rare -- well under 10%.) This disproves the myth that a gun kept for defense will most likely be used against a family member or someone you love.



In over half of these gun defense incidents, the defender was facing two or more attackers -- and three or more attackers in over a quarter of these cases. (No means of defense other than a firearm -- martial arts, pepper spray, or stun guns -- gives a potential victim a decent chance of getting away uninjured when facing multiple attackers.)



In 79.7% of these gun defenses, the defender used a concealable handgun. A quarter of the gun defenses occured in places away from the defender's home.

We'll never know how many could've been saved but we do know for sure that he didn't attack a shooting education camp.Your 1 or 2 a week guy has got it. There would have been no mass slaughter that day, instead there would be constant deaths from shootings, accidental or deliberate. My guess is that the murder rate in Norway for this year will be a lot lower than for the USA

In the US it is 0.042802 per 1,000 people.



Even if Breivik has doubled the murder rate for the year, it will still be half of the USA, and fall back again next year.

EDIT: Wow, all you guys saying that deaths would occur every week have no knowledge of gun control whatsoever. It has been shown that people who carry guns are more likely to defuse confrontations better because they know a deadly weapon is involved. It's also a deterrent to would-be criminals since they know they don't stand a chance against an armed populace.
That would TOTALLY depend upon how well they can shoot, how well they were prepared and did they have weapons on them at the time of the attack.



If the weapons were locked up and they were unprepared, even a large number of navy seals would be shot up before they stopped the gunman.



Look at Ft Hood, the Army personnel didn't have weapons on them, so the MP's and local police had to take down the terrorist and that took time and lives.

I can respect those who just want to live in peace and not bother anyone or be bothered by anyone. But there are always those who feel that they have to act like animals and commit violence upon the innocent.



It's sick.



But yeah, a couple of armed, trained weapons carriers could have ended that nightmare before it got anywhere near the death toll it did.
Why is it that New York City with 10 million people living on top of each other and tight gun control

has less murders than Dallas with a million people spread out and lots of guns?



So you're all in favor of running gun battles, cross fire fatalities and no clear idea of the enemy? Since everyone is a shooter.



I guarantee Norway had less murders than the U.S. even with these fatalities.
Counting the extra fatalities of people getting caught in crossfire and mistakenly shot, maybe even more than did die.



Guns are great self defense objects, sure, when you know how to use them properly and defensively.
1 or 2 a week probably, if history is any indication.
They are indoctrinated into thinking that defending yourself is wrong.
That's like saying school kids need to all be armed with guns in class.
More - the teens would have killed prior to the nut shooting them.
