Will there be millions of newly-unemployed US Military servicemen since half the cuts will come from there?

->> Under the framework that negotiators were discussing today, half of those cuts would come in defense spending, while the other half would be a combination of other domestic spending, like discretionary programs and farm subsidies. Cuts to Medicare would not make up more than 3 percent of the non-military cuts. While many Republicans are loath to risk such cuts to defense, some of the more Tea Party-influenced freshmen members are less concerned with that than with getting big spending cuts overall while avoiding tax increases at all costs. <<

What are all those now-fired soldiers going to do in America where there's already almost 10% unemployment?Defense spending is a huge umbrella. There are many civilian contract workers in that. All of the maintenance on bases are civilian. The Ft. Hood shooting was responded to by civilian law enforcement. In the old days, the guys themselves maintained the bases. A Pvt. and PFC works a lot cheaper then a civilian, with all the benefits.

there are very expensive ships in the process of being made, and many more in the wings to start. I do know that many air craft carriers are still planned, I can not remember the class they are called... the are the latest and greatest. submarines are still in production.

There are spy satellites in production. I do not have data to back it up, but I highly suspect that military payroll and support is really a smaller percentage of the costs. Back after Vietnam, and particularly in the 80's, if a guy couldn't make it past E-5 after so many years, he was forced out... Hard to make rank when no one is getting killed in war..... Everything freezes really.

One guy I knew of had a slight knee issue, they checked him out and found a touch of arthritis, 10% disability and out the door. he could have made it the full 20 years with meds.

So, there is plenty of gravy making projects to cut, without touching our troop level.

What is odd, the House and maybe the senate just passed a 17%? increase, maybe it was 11%, can't remember. I think we need to cut back on some of those ships and subs.

.Did you even read that link? It showed that Reid couldn't even get support from his own party. By the way, no where in your link did it specify that soldiers salaries were being cut. There is more to military spending than that. There is plenty of pork spending in the military budget that we can afford to lose before cutting anyone's pay. Next time at least try to review the article instead of just the headline.
As long as those defense cuts are made overseas where we have no business operating military bases.
they dont have to fire soldiers just stop some of the new construction, barrack renovations and 0bama mandated GM flex fuel purchaes
They will be fine they will take incompetent liberal slacker jobs from them.
YES

after every war there casualties

If that happens we will still have the largest military in the world.
The men and women of the military won`t suffer....Scare scare scare.....
