Regardless of who is president, ten years from now, will the US become a superpower again? Will we still be?

-...

engaged in nation building?

Or will other countries still be laughing at our "police state status"?

(I am not Canadian. Born and raised ini the US and educated in US and abroad)Poorly informed citizens, cronyism on a massive scale, reactionary and populist ideologies... The US is a mess and I don't see it recovering. There hasn't ever been a case of an empire reviving itself. Once empires decline, they continue to decline.

@Dfdf Dffd

People like you are the problem. Poorly informed, reactionary and populist. You continue to hack away at your country's basic services and revenue to the point where it can no longer sustain itself.

@rare2findd

What do you mean other countries have surpassed the US? The US is still the most economically and militarily powerful country in the world. The US has an economy 4x larger than China, which is the 2nd largest economic power.No, never, we have prostituted ourselves to the red chinese and other foreign elements in pursuit of get rich quick schemes that benefit very few. its one thing to import electronics but what superpower can't even clothe itself? the other day i found myself writing with a pencil that said 'made in china'. we can't even make pencils now. also our so called leaders are groomed more for the ability to deliver bumper sticker sound bites than to actually make tough, selfless choices that benefit the nation as a whole. and fox news, the foreign owned propaganda machine whose main purpose seems to be generating bitter divisions amongst americans. yeah, fox sucks too. so, no , we'll never be a great power again.
We are and will still be the worlds only true super power.

Just because we have to hitch rides with the Russians into space(even though back in the 80's it was looking like they might have to hitch with us) and just because we get excited about cars that get 48 mpg(even though back in the 80's we had much cheaper cars that got 60 mpg) and just because we need 4 GB to have a good time (back in the 80's we managed with 64K) and just because we only have 11 aircraft carriers (back in the 80's we had 15+) and just because Disneyland Park hasn't seen the new addition of an E-ticket level attraction in 18 years (back in the late 70's thru mid 80's they built 7, including Space Mt., Big Thunder Mt. and Splash Mt.) doesn't mean the US is waning.....

or does it?
Canadians I talk to don't even believe in the "recession." There's no recession in countries like Canada, Brazil or China.

There's no difference between America today and America 10 years ago, except that our economy is a lot bigger, we had the largest profits in the history of America, there are more people unemployed, but there have been more people being unemployed since the 1970's when jobs were carried overseas. They're unemployed 'cause companies actually want to save money by being more productive and hiring cheaper labor. That doesn't mean the economies bad, in fact it's better.

There was lots of traffic before the recession and now there's still lots of traffic.
Interesting that your post comes from Canada, but you say we. If you want to say we, try living in the country. Otherwise, you are an ex-pat.

The US doesn't need to be a superpower, no one should be. Superpower just really means bully.

What police state are you babbling about? We don't have a police state, you must have us confused with some other country.
We will always have it better than many countrys ever will.

2012 there sounds like could be some possible changes, no I dont think the world will end, but changes I kind of think there might.

Stewart Swerdlow, if you google him, has interesting points, the Denver airport, Jesse Ventura's conspiracy theory, they have some stuff that will blow your mind, about future possibilitys that could happen, us being a superpower not being a big worry.
Until our elected representatives in Washington can learn to negotiate, compromise and start looking out for the best interest of America we will never recover from our problems or return to the great nation we once were.

Our political parties, specifically the GOP, outs party agenda over the best interests of America. They are guided by radical influences, some within the government and some outside the government, that threatens non-support for Republicans bills and no support for reelection if they do not fully support and follow the GOP talking points and vote as they are told.

Some Republicans are seeing the truth and are stepping away from the radical GOP and Tea Party leadership. It will be these people who return us to sanity.

NEVER ELECT ANY (ANY) PERSON BY PARTY BUT RATHER BY THEIR -PROVE- TRACK RECORD AND EXPERIENCE. What is said in campaigns means nothing - they only say what sounds good and exaggerate the facts an din most cases have no ability to follow-up on what they say.
I don't care about being an empire. I want to be a civilized society and country with happy well educated citizens and a meaningful life and empathetic, reason, common sense, and scientific society.

I have no desire to be the biggest bully on the playground.
It will depend on if the country can get its fiscal house in order. If the government is still running trillion dollar deficits as proposed in the administrations FY2012 budget. then no. If the country moves to a more rational fiscal approach and balances it finances them yes.
Well, it does matter who is president my friend. If obama and the left wing democrats remain in office---NO WAY AMERICA WILL RETURN---NO WAY. Hope you noticed, I said LEFT WING-------NOT ALL DEMOCRATS AGREE WITH THE LEFT WING.
We are still a superpower, and many political scientists estimate we will remain until 2050. A superpower has the capabilities to spread its influence across the globe, even in this economic turmoil we still have those capabilities.
We won't be a superpower ever again if predictions come true that the white race will become a minority in America. If whites become a minority, you might as well sign this place up for third world status.
if we cut taxes and cut speding and weaken labor unions. then yes.
You are Goddamn right we will always be #1.....
